On Wednesday January 6th at 12:00 noon I will be conducting a brief ceremony of Remembrance at Pu'uhuluhulu ( Ahu o na Kupuna) adjacent to the Mauna Kea Access Road.
This ceremony is to remember and honor the first 12 patients afflicted with Hansen's Disease (leprosy) who were sent to Moloka'i (January 6th, 1866).
The request comes from "Ka Ohana o Kalaupapa" an organization made up of descendants and advocates of those who suffered and died at Kalawao and Kalaupapa.
The ceremony itself will be brief, open sharing to follow. Begins exactly at 12:00noon and concludes at 12:12pm. Each minute being in honor of those first twelve kanaka.
