Lā 150: Top pic of HPD on Hawaiʻi Island. Bottom pic of MPD on Maui. It has been quite an emotional journey. I have witnessed twice now, the demoralization of the police officers on Maui - and it has brought my appreciation of our police force at home, to a whole new level of respect. I know it's a hard job, and their struggle is deeper than ours - but, they have a choice. Seeing them walking towards our kiaʻi in brand new militarized riot gear, seeing my dear friend arrested based off of a blatant lie right in front of me, seeing our kiaʻi in a choke hold while already handcuffed with his hands behind his back. These were all kanaka vs kanaka - and we learn aloha, before we learn procedure. Now, looking at the bottom pic from Wednesday night, with this officers hand gripping on to his gun while addressing our wahine. The top picture should be shown throughout every Police station throughout our islands.
